2.      Regeneration context

2.0     Regeneration

This section details the various regeneration projects, programmes and initiatives that are being prepared and implemented in the Leaside area, to provide the regeneration context for the redevelopment of the Poplar Baths site.

2.1 Leaside framework and vision [EDAW 2001]

Regeneration This study provides a strategic vision for Leaside as a thriving and prosperous network of communities, integrated with the surrounding renaissance in East London's economy, and sets out an integrated social, economic and environmental framework for the development of the area over the next 10-15 years.

The study details five key dimensions for developing the regeneration framework, namely: community and housing; the local economy; education and training; transport; and the environment.

The land use framework identifies a number of development nodes and opportunity sites (see figure 2) which includes the Poplar Baths site. The baths fall within an area designated as a mixed use regeneration node which is intended to act as catalysts for regeneration throughout Leaside and uses proposed for the site include employment, leisure and residential (mixed tenure).
