2. Regeneration context

Chrisp Street district centre, which lies immediately opposite the site on the northern side of the A13, is also identified as an enhanced retail area with proposals to improve the current retail offer. It is also noted that the potential increase in local employment and housing in and around Chrisp Street will help to sustain existing businesses and facilitate new activities.

More detailed area frameworks have been developed for a number of locations. including Chrisp Street (see figure 3), which present ideas and principles covering land uses, urban form, massing and layout, transport and links to existing communities.

Proposals tor Chrisp Street include substantial investment in new buildings and the creation of a high quality innovative public realm. Poplar Baths is identified as a key private sector investment opportunity.
